    I don't mean to be critical, but what is your source for the information provided? I've been trying to search for the information above not only in my textbooks but also in journals but I can't seem to find anything appropriate.

      This would have been "Introduction to Spectroscopy" by Pavia. It may have been an earlier edition than the current one.
