Deprotonating a double bond is harder than a triple, but it can be done. Especially when the negative charge is delocalized over a ring.
This process always gives ortho addition. It requires a lone pair on the top group attached - typically O or N. This co-ordinates with the organolithium, "guiding" it into the ortho position, and helping to stabilize the product.
